Hopefully this bill will go through and make Illinois the 13th state plus the District of Columbia to have trans-inclusive hate crimes laws. It appears from this article that Illinois is also having a bill introduced that if passed would make Illinois the 8th state to recognize marriage equality. Other states that recognize marriage equality are Washington (as of this week!), Iowa, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the District of Columbia.
