Yesterday I posted an advertisement by Paddy Power that is extremely offensive toward the transgender community. I wanted to let people know today that taking actions like writing letters, contacting networks that air these type of ads as well as the company that was the initial offender causes change.

Today the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) is launching a formal investigation against Paddy Power due to the fact that they received almost 500 complaints the ad was “offensive, transphobic and derogatory towards transgender people”. ASA classifies this number of complaints as “significant.”

If you haven’t watched the video yet, I just want to warn you it is blood boiling. I always encourage that anytime there is misrepresentation of the trans community (or anyone/organization for that matter), use your voice, write letters, but do so in a non-attacking way. Rationalize your defense and educate in a way that will make them concerned, but not defensive or put off.

It should be noted that Paddy Power is still defending the ad….so perhaps they should receive a few (more like) a lot of letters telling them why their defense is wrong.
